Jeffree Trudeau, Founder

Jeffree Trudeau graduated from RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) in 1977, receiving his Bachelors in Architecture while also studying Feng Shui as a minor.  His first eco-community project was the self sufficient intentional community Griffin Gorge Commons on 40 acres in the beautiful mountain region of up-state New York.  There he and his family grew organic food, produced maple syrup, and raised goats.  During the next 17 years Jeffree owned and operated a health food store Living Well Foods, a retreat center for alternative health care, while designing and building natural homes using stone, log and earthen materials.

In 1994 he was drawn to Maui, where he established an eco-home construction company Isle Family Builders.  It was on Maui where he met architect David Sands, and their collaboration was the genesis of Bamboo Living.  In 1996 they built the first bamboo home in the world that was certified and permitted by local building officials to meet Western codes.

Bamboo is my passion, my inspiration.  This small shoot embodies the qualities I try to foster in myself, growth, strength, resiliance, and flexibility.  It's a joy to be a part of the creation of this new sustainable technology for green building. I am bamboo.

Presently Jeffree is Special Projects Director for WBO coordinating a worldwide mission to introduce bamboo for housing and plantations for the long term economic reconstruction in Haiti.
